Red Shoveler

Similar to behavior and nesting requirements to  other "blue shouldered" waterfowl, such as the Cinnamon Teal.    Care must be given not to allow these closely related species not to hybridize. Here at Penners and Feathers many aviaries to separate  them to ensure pure breeding. Will  nest in ground boxes, or heavy natural cover.  Can produce fertile eggs within there first year.   No  permit required     .   They can tolerate   colder winter conditions , similar to the Northern and New Zealand, despite being native to tropical South America.
